Nathan is 41 years old. He lives rurally in Tasman Bay, near Nelson with his wife Jodie and 3 children Jessie, Zephyr and Tide. Currently he is based in Queenstown for 2013 as the Spring Challenge will be held there in September.
Nathan has been organising and directing sporting events since 1992. These have mainly been cycle events but also triathlon and adventure racing. His main career has been Outdoor Education and Adventure Tourism so leadership, logistics and managing people safely in outdoor sport is an area he is an expert in. He has extensive knowledge in Corporate Level outdoor activities too.
SPORT
He has been a semi professional and full time professional athlete for 20-years and currently Captains NZ's highest ranked Adventure Racing Team.
He has competed at national level kayaking, cycling, running and multisport, competed internationally mountain biking and adventure racing. He has traveled extensively around the world competing in sport and competes regularly orienteering and is considered one of the top navigators in adventure sport.

EMPLOYMENT
While sport has been a huge part of his life and for a period a full time job, Nathans ‘real’ career is outdoor education and adventure tourism. He studied Physical Education at Otago University for a year but a huge snow dump in Wanaka convinced him that a season pass at Treble Cone would be a better use of time. He then studied Outdoor Leadership at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT). He worked as a sea kayak guide in the Abel Tasman National Park for 9 seasons, the later 3 years ran Kiwi Kayaks, a business Nathan and his wife founded and operated. Kiwi Kayaks won a New Zealand Small Business Award in its first year. They sold the business to work as Instructors at the NZ Outward Bound School for 3 years.

In 2007 Nathan was employed by VHQ TV to manage the Outdoor Safety and Activities for the CRUNCH TV show, he spent 4-months in China preparing and managing the outdoor elements. In 2008 he was invited to be Race Director for the Lake to Lighthouse, a new multisport event run in the North Island.
